Message from the Board
The staff and volunteers at NEBCO would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone that joined us at the Fall Festival, the volunteers, and business that donated goods/services for the event. Through your generosity, we raised over $23,000, the most in recent memory. More importantly, everyone seemed to have a great time and it was wonderful to reconnect with our friends and neighbors.
The $23,000 will be go towards the purchase of a pre-owned fire engine to replace our 1978 engine that recently failed to meet required pump performance specifications and is too expensive/unreliable to repair. The preowned engine, whose purchase was approved by the NEBCO Board, is 10 yrs old with 5000 miles and costs $260,000. For comparison purposes, a new fire engine would cost roughly $650,000 and take 2 years for delivery. This expense was a bit sooner than expected, as our Long Range Plan had planned this purchase for 2024. However, it is a necessary expense to continue to provide coverage for all NEBCO members and to sustain our ISO rating. NEBCO would deeply appreciate any donation to help offset the cost of this fire engine.
Finally, we are on track to exceed 1000 calls this year, the most in our 44 year history. We are grateful for the work of our staff and volunteers as they strive to provide outstanding Fire and EMS services to our members and visitors. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and enjoyable holiday season. We look forward to seeing you the last Saturday in February at the 2023 Chili Cookoff!
